The 3 P’s
This is another project I completed this week. We were assigned to choose a word (from a list provided to us), and extract three nuances from it. These nuances were: Practical, Poetic, and Persuasive. My word was “organized”. I initially planned to do something involving maps, but the concept and execution weren’t quite coming together for me, so I thought and sketched and thought and sketched until I ended up with the idea that birds are organized.
Practical: What is organization? I first think of it as the arrangement of similar objects. Birds naturally sort themselves apart from everything else when they perch on telephone wires.
Poetic: Birds organized around their mother for protection and nurturing one way to appeal emotionally to the poster’s viewer.
Persuasive: Migratory flocks of birds are a compelling image for the idea of staying organized. There’s more to it than simply flying in formation — there’s a division of labor and leadership, for example.
…birds of a feather, flock together!
