Photography & Design
The reading room inside MIT’s Barker Library has been closed for months for a massive renovation (here’s the story), and re-opens this week. I needed to grab some photos of the room for a class project, so I got permission to sneak in before it opened. The newly restored skylight in the dome is looking GORGEOUS and renewed my appreciation for the loveliness of the room.
I have been meaning to post these for AGES. Back in November, I met up with Kelly (you might recognize her if you follow my photos for OnStage Dance) and her fiance, Joe. We talked & walked around the Boston Common, Public Garden, and cut through Beacon Hill. Below are five of my favorites from that day. Enjoy!
This was taken this morning. I was in the passenger seat as Drew drove us to work, taking I-93 to get there. I often find myself caught between a tension of wanting to capture these kind of moments with my camera and wanting to sit back and enjoy them as they unfold. So sometimes I leave my camera at home on purpose. Not today, though!
2012 kind of sucked, so we made sure to end on a high note by getting engaged, drinking some champagne, and doing a jump shot. Bring on 2013!
These apples are AMAZING (my favorite is the peanut/chocolate one). I came down to Philly for the weekend, because Drew has been down here a lot and frankly, I’m a little tired of being apart from him. I ended up shooting these apples for his cousin, Christie. She has taken over her mom’s candy business (Sin Chocolate, based in Downingtown, PA) and is now ramping up their web presence (I’ll link to them once the site is up).
This was my first time trying to create any kind of product photography — we used a white sheet as the backdrop and two round reflectors to help bounce the SB-900 flash. It was all completely ad hoc — I think we’ll be kicking up the set-up a notch if we do this again. Not bad for a first time, right?
Two weeks ago, I ended my year-long hiatus from wedding photography to shoot for S & K in Brooklyn. Here are five of my favorites — it was a rainy and gray day — but I’m pretty sure no one noticed. S & K, their family and friends all had a great energy, so it was complete honor to be a part of their day.
P.S. If you like glasses, you should check out S’s optometry practice.
